LZZY HALE Says HALESTORM Will Work On New 'Project' Before Band's Fall Tour With GODSMACK

HALESTORM vocalist Lzzy Hale recently spoke with Terrie Carr of the Morristown, New Jersey radio station 105.5 WDHA. The full conversation can be seen below. A few excerpts follow (as transcribed by BLABBERMOUTH.NET).

On the recent 22nd anniversary of the band's formation:

Lzzy: "It's crazy. My little bro [Arejay, HALESTORM's drummer] and I, we've literally been doing this since I was 13 and he was 10, and everything else came second. We got, like, serious interventions from our teachers — like, 'You are too obsessed with this. You have to figure out what you want to do.' Little bro said something really profound yesterday... He's like, 'Look at all this stuff we're doing. We have a tour bus now. We go around the world and we're still doing it. It proves that yes indeed we're crazy, but we're not stupid. This was not a stupid idea.' It's very cool."

On the group's recently completed tour with ALICE COOPER:

Lzzy: "I feel like we keep adding to the bucket list. You start out with, like, 'Okay, there's five things that you really want to have happen.' 'I want to be on the front page of our local paper.' Then that happened. There's all these little, tiny mile-markers that throughout our career, we just keep passing. This tour [with ALICE COOPER] is one of those. When I was 11, I took an ALICE COOPER CD to a slumber party and found out like I was not like the other girls. [Laughs]... We moved into a new place, so, like, I didn't have any friends. They were being really nice to me... I brought 'Love It To Death'. I don't think we made it past the first chorus. I skipped to '[I'm] Eighteen', because it was one of my favorites — like, 'Listen to this one!' They're like, 'No, let's put [the other] CD back on.' I can now trace that back to now what my mission statement is — just owning your weird. That's kind of been my m.o. in life. I feel like you can trace it back to that moment where you're like, 'Wait a minute — why do I love this music? I love this music regardless of whether anybody else likes it'... There would not be a Ms. Hyde without ALICE COOPER."

On jamming with Cooper's band:

Lzzy: "He's getting me up [onstage] every night to play 'School's Out' with him. It's one of those things where, like... I've been in a band for 22 years. I put on my leather jacket — like, 'Okay, I feel cool.' Then you get out there and he looks right at you and you're, like, right back to when you're 11 years old."

On the success of the band's 2018 album "Vicious":

Lzzy: "This has been, like, our busiest year. The coolest thing that happened with this [album] — besides getting nominated for a Grammy again; that was awesome [and a] total surprise, especially with 'Uncomfortable', a very unorthodox song — we've seen this crazy elevation in our core fan base. All of a sudden, these fans that we've known for years, that have followed us for years, are like, 'This is the record. This is what we wanted. This is what we want to hear.' Again, [it was a] complete surprise to me because for me, this record was more of a personal journey. But I think there is some kind of lesson that I should be taking my own advice from for this, because I think by being honest on this record, everybody was like, 'See? That's great. That's awesome.' Just kind of getting a little deeper, being unapologetically yourself, and so far, so good."

On the band's next steps:

Lzzy: "We go in the studio. We have a project we're working on. Not a new record yet, but a project we're working on. But it's not 'Reanimate' [the group's series of covers EPs] — it's something else. [I'm] super-excited about that. Then we go out with GODSMACK, and then we go to Europe with our friends IN THIS MOMENT and NEW YEARS DAY. We only decided to do [an all female-fronted lineup for] one tour — we're, like, 'We've never done this together. Let's do it.' Then it became this thing that everybody started asking for... Then we're going to Australia with our friends BLACK STONE CHERRY, and then we're going to Malaysia for the first time. That will bring us to Christmas."

HALESTORM's tour with GODSMACK kicks off September 20 in Green Bay, Wisconsin.
